1945: Two pharmacists, Robert Alexander and William Conner open a pharmacy in Fort Worth, Texas, combining the first syllables of their last names to call it Alcon.

1980: Ciba Vision was formed.

1998: Night & Day launches, the first contact lens that can be worn for 30 consecutive days and nights.

2004: Ciba Vision launches O2 Optix (later re-branded as Air Optix), a highly breathable contact lens.
